Vaibhav Suryavanshi Watches Shubman Gill Shine in Second Test Against England
Young Batter Vaibhav Suryavanshi Observes Test Match Action
Emerging talent Vaibhav Suryavanshi was spotted in the stands at Edgbaston, Birmingham, enjoying the live action on Day 2 of the ongoing second Test between India and England. The young player watched as Shubman Gill, the Indian captain, skillfully surpassed his double century during the afternoon session.
Notably, Suryavanshi is currently part of the India U-19 squad touring the UK for a multi-format series against the England U-19 team. He was accompanied by several teammates who were also present to witness the senior team take control of the match, turning the tide after a challenging first day.
In terms of the match dynamics, Gill emerged as the key player on the second day, working to recover from the team's initial collapse. He formed a formidable partnership with Ravindra Jadeja, accumulating an impressive 203 runs for the sixth wicket. Jadeja fell just 11 runs short of his century, paving the way for Washington Sundar from Tamil Nadu to join Gill at the crease.
Gill achieved his double century off just 311 deliveries, significantly increasing the scoring rate. Sundar provided solid support, contributing effectively during the second session. With the scoreboard exceeding 550 runs, the onus now lies on the pace bowlers to contain the English batsmen as the first innings approaches its conclusion.
It is important to note that India is without their star pacer Jasprit Bumrah. The pace attack now includes Akash Deep, Mohammed Siraj, and Prasidh Krishna, with Nitish Kumar Reddy serving as the fourth medium-pace option. A critical phase of the match lies ahead as India aims to level the five-match series, with three more matches still to play.
