Vaibhav Suryavanshi Sets Record as Youngest Centurion in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy
Vaibhav Suryavanshi Achieves Milestone
Kolkata, Dec 2: Vaibhav Suryavanshi, at just 14 years old, has made history by becoming the youngest player to score a century in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy during a match against Maharashtra at Eden Gardens on Tuesday.
Representing Bihar, Suryavanshi hit 108 runs off only 61 deliveries, which included seven boundaries and an equal number of sixes, marking a significant achievement in the tournament.
After previously scoring modest totals of 14, 13, and 5, he reached his first fifty of the tournament in 34 balls before surpassing the three-figure mark.
This century was his third in just 16 professional T20 matches, and notably, it was the slowest of his centuries, taking him 58 balls to reach three figures.
Thanks to Suryavanshi's remarkable performance, Bihar set a target of 176 runs for Maharashtra, who were at 174-7 at the time of this report.
Earlier this year, Suryavanshi made headlines as the youngest player to debut in the IPL at 14 years and 23 days, playing against the Lucknow Super Giants. Just nine days later, he became the youngest centurion in IPL history with a stunning 35-ball century against the Gujarat Titans, the fastest by an Indian and the second overall, trailing only Chris Gayle.
His record-breaking 143 runs in the fourth match of the U19 men's ODIs made him the youngest player to achieve such a feat in that format.
Additionally, he scored a century against the Australia U19 team in a Youth Test match last month. Most recently, he dazzled in the Rising Stars Asia Cup, scoring 144 runs off 42 balls for India A against the UAE, hitting 11 fours and 15 sixes.
His 32-ball century established him as the youngest player to score for any national representative side at the senior level, breaking a record that had stood for two decades.
