Maninder Singh's Take on Sooryavanshi's Debut

Former Indian cricketer Maninder Singh expressed his thoughts on 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who scored just 14 runs in his debut match against England during the second T20I. Singh believes that Sooryavanshi should have made his debut during the Ireland series, as he noticed signs of nervousness in the young player's performance.

Sooryavanshi made headlines by becoming the youngest international cricketer for India at 15 years and 99 days, surpassing the legendary Sachin Tendulkar, who debuted at 16 years and 238 days. However, his debut was brief, lasting only 10 balls and resulting in 14 runs, including two sixes.

Maninder's Advice for Future Success

In an interview, Maninder praised Sooryavanshi's potential but suggested that debuting in Ireland would have better prepared him for the formidable English bowling attack. He acknowledged that nerves are a common experience for players, even the most seasoned ones, and expressed hope that Sooryavanshi would excel in white-ball cricket, which he described as 'the game of the brave.'

"I am thrilled for Vaibhav Suryavanshi. He should have played in Ireland to maintain his rhythm. If he had faced challenges there, he might have been more composed in this match. His shot selection indicated nervousness, which is understandable for a 15-year-old competing against experienced players. He has shown his capability by hitting sixes against top bowlers like Jasprit Bumrah and Pat Cummins," he stated.

Maninder urged cricket fans to be patient with Sooryavanshi, emphasizing that batting in overseas conditions is a valuable learning experience for the young talent. "Indian cricket enthusiasts need to be patient; he is a gifted player who can make a significant impact in matches. I have faith that he will meet our expectations," he concluded.

Sooryavanshi's Impressive Track Record

Sooryavanshi was included in India's T20I squads for the tours of Ireland and England, as well as the Asian Games, making him the youngest player ever selected for the national team, breaking a record held by Sachin Tendulkar for 36 years.

Remarkable IPL 2026 Performance

Sooryavanshi's national call-up followed an outstanding IPL 2026 season with the Rajasthan Royals, where he scored 776 runs at an impressive strike rate of 237.30, including a century and five fifties. He emerged as the tournament's leading run-scorer, hitting a record 72 sixes and receiving multiple post-season awards, including the Orange Cap and Most Valuable Player.

In his IPL career thus far, he has accumulated 1,028 runs in 23 matches, averaging 44.69 with a strike rate of 228.95, featuring two centuries and six fifties, with a top score of 103 and 96 sixes.

Dominance in Youth and A-Cricket

During a recent tri-nation series in Sri Lanka, Sooryavanshi scored 211 runs in five innings at an average of 42.20, with a strike rate nearing 201, including a best score of 94. He also set a record for the fastest List A fifty in just 11 balls against Sri Lanka A.

He leads as India's top run-scorer in youth ODIs, amassing 1,412 runs in 25 matches at an average of 56.48 and a strike rate of 165.72, with four centuries and seven fifties. In his first U19 World Cup appearance this year, he topped the scoring charts with 439 runs in seven matches, averaging 62.71 and striking at 169.49, including a century and three fifties, while hitting a remarkable 30 sixes, the highest in the tournament's history.
