Vaibhav Sooryavanshi: Young Cricket Prodigy Makes History with National Call-Up
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's Historic Selection
Kapil Dev, the former captain of the Indian cricket team, has praised the young batting talent Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who recently received his first call-up to the national squad at just 15 years old. Dev highlighted the remarkable skills that Sooryavanshi has already demonstrated, which are rare for players of his age. He emphasized the importance of remaining humble and focused as the young cricketer embarks on his professional journey.
Record-Breaking Achievement
On Saturday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced Sooryavanshi's inclusion in the national team for an upcoming European tour, making him the youngest player ever to be selected for the Indian men's cricket team. This achievement surpasses a long-standing record set by Sachin Tendulkar, who debuted for India at the age of 16 against Pakistan in 1989.
Kapil Dev's Encouragement
"He is an immense talent. Watching him play was a delight. Although he has a long road ahead, his skill level is exceptional for someone so young. I wish him all the best. If he remains grounded and takes care of himself, his future will be bright," Kapil Dev remarked.
Outstanding IPL 2026 Season
Sooryavanshi's selection follows an impressive performance in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, where he played for the Rajasthan Royals. He finished as the tournament's leading run-scorer, accumulating 776 runs with an astonishing strike rate of 237.30.
His remarkable season included a record-breaking 72 sixes, allowing him to set multiple IPL records and establish himself as one of the most promising young talents in Indian cricket. The Bihar native dominated the post-season awards, earning accolades such as Most Valuable Player (MVP), Emerging Player of the Season, Super Striker, Orange Cap, and Super Sixes of the Season.
Upcoming Matches for India
India's next challenge will be a two-match T20I series against Ireland in Belfast on June 26 and 28, followed by a five-match T20I series in England from July 1 to 11.
