As the Indian cricket team gears up for the second T20I against the West Indies, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's impressive net session has ignited discussions about his potential inclusion in the playing XI. Despite being left out of the first match, his powerful batting display has caught the attention of coaches and fans alike. With the team looking to extend their lead in the series, the debate intensifies over whether to stick with the experienced Sanju Samson or give the young prodigy a chance to shine. Will Sooryavanshi finally make his mark in the upcoming match? Read on to find out more.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's Impressive Net Session

On the eve of the second T20I in Ranchi against the West Indies, Indian cricket sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi showcased his skills at the JSCA International Stadium Complex on October 9. The Indian team, captained by Shreyas Iyer, aims to secure a 2-0 lead after their eight-wicket victory in the series opener held on October 6 at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.

Despite his impressive performance as an opener during the Asian Games 2026, where he scored 38 and 15 in the semifinal and final respectively, Sooryavanshi was not selected for the first T20I, as the management opted for the opening duo of Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma.

Sooryavanshi's Case for Inclusion

As preparations intensify for the second T20I, Sooryavanshi's remarkable net practice has sparked discussions among the team management. A viral video on social media, particularly on X (formerly Twitter), captured him effortlessly hitting towering sixes off local bowlers, drawing the attention of batting coach Sitanshu Kotak and head coach Gautam Gambhir.

His ability to hit sixes consistently during practice has reinforced his reputation as one of India's most promising young talents. This session served as a reminder of his fearless approach and hunger for runs.

Performance Highlights

Sooryavanshi's recent performance in the Zimbabwe T20I series, where he scored 151 runs and was named Player of the Series, demonstrated his capability at the highest level. Although his debut T20I series against England was challenging, he rebounded with impressive innings, including a quick 38 runs off 21 balls against Sri Lanka in the Asian Games semifinal, showcasing his adaptability on difficult pitches.

Selection Dilemma for the Second T20I

Despite his talent, Sooryavanshi has not received consistent opportunities since his T20I debut against England, as the management has favored the established opening pair of Samson and Sharma. Samson's recent performances, with scores of 5, 0, 1, 27, 10, 57, 50, 9, 7, 2, and 11, have led to speculation about a potential change in the lineup, possibly giving Sooryavanshi his long-awaited chance.

With Abhishek Sharma seemingly secure in his position, the competition for the remaining opening slot between Sooryavanshi and Samson has become a topic of interest. The ongoing debate centers around whether to continue supporting the experienced Samson or to unleash the youthful exuberance of Sooryavanshi in the crucial match in Ranchi.
