Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Receives Team India Jersey Number 3 Ahead of Ireland Series
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's Historic Selection
The 15-year-old cricket prodigy, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, has been assigned jersey number 3 for the upcoming two-match T20I series against Ireland, with the first match scheduled at the Civil Service Security Club Ground in Belfast on June 26.
Sooryavanshi's inclusion in the Indian squad for the T20I matches against Ireland and England, as well as the Asian Games 2026, makes him the youngest player ever to be selected for the national team, breaking a long-standing record held by Sachin Tendulkar for 37 years. This achievement marks a significant milestone in the history of Indian cricket.
As he prepares for his potential debut, Vaibhav received his first senior Men in Blue jersey, featuring his name and the number 3, symbolizing a pivotal moment in his burgeoning career.
The Significance of Jersey Number 3
Previously, during his time with the Rajasthan Royals, Sooryavanshi wore jersey number 12, which became synonymous with his rise in domestic cricket. However, as he transitions to the national team, he has opted for jersey number 3, sparking discussions among fans.
The choice of jersey number 3 was inspired by a playful suggestion from his mother, Aarti. In an interview during the Rising Stars Asia Cup last year, he mentioned that she pointed out that the digits of his former number 12 add up to 3 (1+2=3), encouraging him to adopt the single-digit number as a lucky charm.
Vaibhav shared, "My mother suggested that since my previous jersey number was 12, and the digits 1 and 2 add up to 3, I should use the single-digit 3 instead. She believed it might bring me good luck."
Anticipation for His Debut
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi wore the same jersey number during the Asia Cup Rising Stars last year and the recent India A's ODI Tri-Nation Series. While representing the India U19 team, he donned jersey number 18, which is closely associated with cricket icons Virat Kohli and Smriti Mandhana, who serve as inspirations for many young players.
Now embracing the No. 3 jersey, the young talent hopes it will bring him the same fortune as he embarks on his senior international journey.
As Team India prepares for the T20 World Cup and LA Olympics cycle with the series against Ireland, all eyes are on Sooryavanshi, who has already made waves with his dynamic batting style in IPL and domestic cricket.
The Civil Service Cricket Club Ground, with a capacity of 7,000, is expected to witness a strong turnout, as fans are eager to see the young star's potential debut. Ticket demand has surged following his selection.
Given the excitement surrounding his debut, Team India management is likely to present Sooryavanshi with his first cap before the T20I against Ireland. If he plays, he is expected to open the innings alongside Abhishek Sharma, with Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan slated to bat at No. 3 and 4, respectively.
Should he take the field on Friday, Sooryavanshi will officially surpass Sachin Tendulkar's long-standing record, becoming the youngest male cricketer to debut for India in international cricket.
