Preparation for the Upcoming IPL Season

As the Indian Premier League (IPL) approaches, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) bowler Vaibhav Arora is dedicated to refining his skills. He is eager to learn from Tim Southee, the renowned New Zealand pacer who has joined KKR as a bowling coach for the new season.

Arora's Impressive Track Record

The 28-year-old from Ambala made his IPL debut in 2023 and has since taken 36 wickets across 32 matches, boasting a remarkable strike rate of 17.72. He played a pivotal role in KKR's championship victory in IPL 2024, securing 11 wickets in 10 matches with an average of 25.09.

Intensive Training Regimen

In preparation for the season, Arora has been diligently training, focusing on various aspects of his bowling. He stated, "The preparation is solid. We are engaging in practice matches and refining our variations in the nets. As a fast bowler, it's essential to prepare thoroughly and enhance skills for effective execution during matches."

Learning from Tim Southee

Arora is particularly enthusiastic about collaborating with Tim Southee, who has a wealth of experience as New Zealand's leading wicket-taker across all formats with 776 wickets. Reflecting on their previous time as teammates, Arora expressed, "Tim is a legend with immense experience. Having played alongside him in 2023, I learned a lot. Now, with him as our bowling coach, I look forward to gaining more insights to enhance my skills."

Adapting to Conditions

Known for his prowess with the new ball, Arora aims to broaden his skill set to adapt to varying conditions throughout the season. He noted, "At Eden Gardens last year, the new ball swings only for the initial overs. After that, variations become crucial due to the pitch conditions."

Pace and Control in T20 Matches

He emphasized the significance of pace and control when delivering different lengths in T20 matches. "It's vital to maintain good pace for hard-length deliveries to restrict batters. If the pitch offers assistance, slower balls and bouncers become essential, along with yorkers," he added.

Mindset for the Upcoming Season

Looking forward, Arora mentioned that the team's focus is on maintaining their preparation and being ready for the next training phase in Kolkata. "Our mindset is geared towards the upcoming camp in Kolkata, and we aim to be mentally and physically prepared to give our all," he concluded.

Recent Performance and Season Kickoff

KKR will commence their IPL campaign on March 29 against the Mumbai Indians (MI). Arora enters the tournament with mixed results, having taken nine wickets in seven matches at an average of nearly 40 in the Vijay Hazare Trophy and nine wickets in seven games in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
