Uttarakhand High Court Orders Response on Bypass Construction Concerns
High Court Hearing on Bypass Construction in Rudraprayag
The Uttarakhand High Court has mandated the District Magistrate of Rudraprayag and the executing agency involved in the ongoing bypass construction in Kund to submit their responses within a week regarding a public interest petition.
This petition raises concerns about falling rocks in and around the village of Semi Dhasari, as well as along the Kedarnath highway, which is part of the Char Dham pilgrimage route. The court session was presided over by Chief Justice G. Narendranath and Justice Subhash Upadhyay.
The bench instructed the District Magistrate and the executing agency to provide their replies within the stipulated timeframe. Madan Singh Bisht, a resident of Semi Dhasari village in Rudraprayag district, filed the petition, stating that the construction of the bypass in Kund has led to rockfalls affecting both the village and the Kedarnath highway. Additionally, debris from the construction is reportedly being dumped into the Mandakini River.
The petitioner alleged that the executing agency has failed to implement any safety measures during the construction and has not established a dumping zone for the debris.
The petition further claims that the continuous falling debris poses a significant threat to the safety of the Kedarnath highway and the local residents. Through this petition, the High Court has been requested to direct the executing agency to ensure adequate safety measures for the villagers during the construction process.
