CM Dhami Responds to Political Manipulation Allegations

On Saturday, Uttarakhand's Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami reiterated his stance on the Ankita Bhandari murder case, asserting that certain individuals are attempting to mislead the public by politicizing the incident. Speaking at the closing ceremony of the first sports and cultural festival in Tehri Garhwal, organized by the Thouladhar Cultural Development Committee, CM Dhami targeted those he believes are exploiting the tragedy for political gain.

He emphasized that some have shown no hesitation in politicizing the Ankita Bhandari case, using emotional issues to mislead the populace. During this challenging time, he expressed his government's unwavering support for the family of the 19-year-old victim, stating that they have stood by Ankita's family and will continue to do so. Upon learning of the incident, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was promptly established.

CM Dhami further noted that after an extensive investigation lasting two to three years, three individuals were arrested and sentenced to life imprisonment by the Kotdwar court in 2025. He mentioned that Ankita's parents had requested a CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) inquiry into the matter, and respecting their wishes, he confirmed that the CBI investigation has been authorized.

This case has emerged amid controversy surrounding alleged VIP involvement. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi raised questions on Friday regarding why those responsible for incidents like the Ankita Bhandari murder are still being protected. In a post on X, he stated, "The corrupt two-engine government of the BJP has ruined lives across the country. Corruption, abuse of power, and arrogance have permeated the BJP's politics from top to bottom. In their system, the poor, helpless, laborers, and middle class have become mere statistics, while a racket of extortion operates in the name of 'development.' The brutal murder of Ankita Bhandari has shaken the entire nation, but the question remains: which VIP in power is being shielded by the BJP? When will the law be equal for everyone?"
