Inauguration of the UP T20 League
The fourth edition of the UP T20 League was officially launched by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath during a spectacular ceremony held at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium. The event, which took place on Friday, was graced by notable sports figures and dignitaries, including former Indian cricketer Suresh Raina, emerging talent Abhishek Sharma, UP Sports Minister Girish Chandra Yadav, BCCI Vice-President Rajeev Shukla, UP T20 League Chairman Dr. Sanjay Kapoor, and MLC Mahendra Singh.
CM Adityanath Emphasizes 'Fit India' Initiative
During his address, CM Adityanath rallied the crowd with chants of 'Bharat Mata Ki Jai' and underscored the athletic potential of Uttar Pradesh. He connected the tournament's essence to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Fit India' vision, stating, "A fit youth will shape the future of a Fit India." He praised the UP T20 League as an excellent platform for young talent, noting that with a population of 25 crore, a single team was inadequate. The six franchises now represent the state across all regions, and the opening match between Kashi Rudras and Meerut Mavericks exemplifies the state's rich heritage and competitive spirit.
Chairman Kapoor Acknowledges Team Effort
In his welcome speech, UP T20 League Chairman Dr. Sanjay Kapoor expressed his appreciation for the support from CM Adityanath and BCCI Vice-President Rajeev Shukla. He characterized the league as a celebration of Uttar Pradesh, emphasizing that it belongs to all citizens and highlighting the collaborative effort to enhance the state's cricketing stature.
BCCI VP Highlights Player Development
BCCI Vice-President Rajeev Shukla spoke about the tournament's significance for player development, stating that Season 4 marks a pivotal moment for local cricketers and their support teams. He mentioned that over 250 young players will have the chance to display their skills on a significant platform. Furthermore, many former cricketers have secured important roles in administrative and technical capacities. Shukla asserted that initiatives like this will cultivate future stars who may represent franchises in the IPL and the national team.
Tournament Details
The UP T20 League will consist of 34 matches held across two venues. The first phase will take place in Lucknow until August 26, followed by the second phase, playoffs, and the grand finale at Green Park Stadium in Kanpur on September 6.
