Uttar Pradesh STF Arrests Drug Dealer Linked to Cough Syrup Trafficking

In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, the Special Task Force (STF) in Lucknow arrested a key figure involved in the illegal trade of cough syrup. The operation revealed a network distributing narcotic substances across several states and even to Bangladesh. The investigation, which included a joint effort with the Food Safety and Drug Administration, led to the seizure of a large quantity of cough syrup. As authorities continue to interrogate the suspects, more details about the trafficking ring are expected to emerge.
 

Arrest of a Drug Trafficker in Lucknow

On Tuesday morning, a man involved in the illegal trade of narcotic cough syrup was apprehended by the Special Task Force (STF) near Placio Mall in Gomtinagar Extension, Lucknow, as reported by an official.


According to a statement released by the office of the Director General of Police, the STF had been receiving information for several days regarding the illegal storage and distribution of 'Phensedyl' cough syrup and other codeine-containing medications, which were allegedly being sent to Uttarakhand, Bihar, Jharkhand, Assam, West Bengal, and even Bangladesh.


The statement further revealed that a joint investigation committee comprising the STF and the Food Safety and Drug Administration was established to look into the matter.


During the investigation, a significant quantity of illegal 'Phensedyl' cough syrup was seized, leading to the registration of a case at the Sushant Golf City police station.


The STF had previously arrested two individuals, Vibhor Rana and Vishal Singh, on November 12 and Amit Kumar Singh, also known as Amit Tata, on November 27.


Following interrogations of the arrested suspects, the name Alok Pratap Singh emerged, who was subsequently arrested on Tuesday near Placio Mall. The STF team is currently questioning Singh to gather more information about other members of the trafficking ring.
