Uttar Pradesh Sees Significant Increase in Voter Registration

Uttar Pradesh has experienced a remarkable increase in its voter population, surpassing 133.9 million following the Special Intensive Revision process. Major Growth in Voter Numbers in Uttar Pradesh

According to the final voter list published on Friday, Uttar Pradesh has witnessed an increase of over 8.4 million voters following the completion of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), bringing the total to approximately 133.9 million. During a press conference at the Lok Bhawan Media Center, the Chief Electoral Officer of Uttar Pradesh, Navdeep Rinwa, explained that the SIR process was conducted from October 27, 2025, to April 10, 2026, covering all 75 districts, 403 assembly constituencies, and polling stations across the state.


 


Rinwa noted that this extensive process, which lasted 166 days, involved the contributions of 75 District Election Officers (DEOs), 403 Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), 12,758 Assistant EROs, 18,026 BLO supervisors, and 177,516 booth-level officers (BLOs). Additionally, 582,877 booth-level agents from recognized political parties and millions of voters participated in the effort. He mentioned that the draft voter list published on January 6, 2026, included a total of 125,556,025 voters, comprising 68.8 million male voters, 56.7 million female voters, and 4,119 voters from the third gender. The number of voters aged 18-19 was recorded at 333,981, with a gender ratio of 824 female voters for every 1,000 male voters.


 


According to Rinwa, the final voter list published on April 10, 2026, shows a total of 133,984,792 voters. This includes 73,071,071 male voters (approximately 54 percent), 60,909,525 female voters (45.46 percent), and 4,206 voters from the third gender (less than 0.01 percent). The number of voters aged 18-19 has increased to 1,763,360, representing 1.32 percent of the total electorate. The gender ratio has also improved, with 834 female voters for every 1,000 male voters. Comparing the draft and final voter lists, Rinwa highlighted an increase of 8,428,767 voters, including 4,227,902 male voters, 4,200,778 female voters, and 87 voters from the third gender.


 


Rinwa reported a rise of 1,429,379 voters in the 18-19 age group, while the gender ratio improved by 10 points from 824 to 834. He further stated that the highest increase in voters was recorded in Prayagraj, with 329,421 new registrations, followed by Lucknow (285,961), Bareilly (over 257,000), Ghaziabad (243,666), and Jaunpur (237,590). The Chief Electoral Officer emphasized that the successful completion of the revision process reflects the coordinated efforts of election officials, political parties, and voters across the state. At the assembly constituency level, Sahibabad in Ghaziabad saw the highest increase of 82,898 voters, followed by Jaunpur (assembly constituency number 366) with an increase of 56,118 voters. In Lucknow West, there was an increase of 54,822 voters, while Ghaziabad's Loni recorded 53,679 new voters, and Firozabad assembly constituency saw an increase of 47,757 voters. Rinwa also mentioned that during the revision process, approximately 10.4 million voters were identified as 'non-mapped' due to mismatches, while 22.2 million cases involved logical discrepancies. Notices were issued starting January 14, 2026, with hearings scheduled from January 21, and all notices were prepared and distributed. Hearings were completed by March 27, 2026. He stressed that no voter's name would be removed without due process during the SIR.
