Uttar Pradesh Police Takes Action Against AIMIM Leaders for Controversial Remarks
Police Action Against AIMIM Leaders
The Uttar Pradesh Police have initiated legal proceedings against Haji Shaukat Ali, the head of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) in the state, following his allegedly inflammatory comments made during an Eid celebration in Meerut, as reported by a local news outlet.
In addition, three officials from the party have been detained for hosting the event without the necessary permissions.
The gathering took place at a farmhouse on Monday, according to police statements.
Authorities took action after a video from the event circulated widely on social media, where Ali was heard discussing the upcoming 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections.
He reportedly stated, “If you provide me with just 11 MLAs, I assure you that if a Muslim is killed in an encounter in Uttar Pradesh, those responsible will also face similar consequences.”
Ali also criticized the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party for shutting down madrasas and demolishing homes as a form of punishment.
Meerut's Superintendent of Police, Antriksh Jain, confirmed that a case has been filed at the Lohiya Nagar police station.
The first information report includes allegations of inciting discord among communities and making statements that could lead to public unrest, as reported by a local news source.
According to Jain, “The speeches aimed to foster animosity between various religions and communities, potentially disrupting law and order.”
The detained AIMIM leaders have been identified as Mehtab Chauhan, the party's president for western Uttar Pradesh, along with metropolitan president Imran Ansari and metropolitan secretary Razi Siddiqui, according to reports.
