New Delhi, July 6: Authorities in Uttar Pradesh have apprehended a suspect in connection with the murder of his girlfriend, whose dismembered remains were discovered scattered across various locations following a dispute regarding her communication with another individual, as reported by officials on Monday.
The police in Jaunpur announced that they cracked the case within a mere 14 hours after the body was found.
Circle Officer Vijay Chaudhary stated, “On July 5, 2026, at approximately 7:30 a.m., the remains of an unidentified woman were located near the Ranipur Bypass. To identify the victim and resolve the case, the Senior Superintendent of Police formed a collaborative team that included the Surveillance Cell and Mariyahu Police Station. Remarkably, the team managed to solve the case within 14 hours, leading to the arrest of the suspect, a resident of Bhavnagar, Gujarat, who had been residing in Mariahu town. He suffered a gunshot wound to his leg during the police encounter and has been taken to the hospital for medical care.”
Law enforcement officials indicated that the suspect was located through surveillance data and analysis of CCTV footage. The investigation is ongoing.
According to reports, the motive for the crime stemmed from the suspect's jealousy over the victim's interactions with another person.
A similar incident occurred earlier this year in Uttar Pradesh, where a man in Agra was accused of murdering his girlfriend at his workplace, dismembering her body, and disposing of the remains in the Yamuna River. The suspect was later captured following an extensive search.
This earlier case came to light on January 24 when police discovered a bag containing human remains. The day before, the victim's family had reported her missing after she did not return home.
Police formed multiple teams and reviewed CCTV footage from nearby areas to track the victim's last known movements. The footage revealed a man, identified as Vinay, a colleague of the victim, transporting a sack on her scooter.
