Uttar Pradesh Police Officer Arrested for Accepting Bribe

A sub-inspector in Uttar Pradesh has been arrested by the Anti-Corruption Organization for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹50,000. The officer was caught in the act after a complaint was filed by a local resident, who claimed that the officer threatened to jail his family unless the money was paid. The investigation is ongoing, and necessary actions are being taken against the accused officer.
 

Police Officer Caught in Bribery Sting

On Saturday, a team from the Anti-Corruption Organization (ACO) of the Uttar Pradesh Police apprehended a sub-inspector, identified as Ashraf Khan, while he was allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹50,000. This information was confirmed by an official.


According to the ACO, the complainant, Saidullah, reported that a case had been filed against his family. Sub-inspector Khan allegedly demanded the bribe in exchange for preventing their arrest and resolving the matter.


Saidullah claimed that Khan threatened him, stating that if the money was not paid, all family members would be sent to jail. Inspector Shiv Mohan Yadav, in charge of the ACO team in Gorakhpur, mentioned that a case was registered against Khan at the Farenda police station based on the complaint.


Following a preliminary investigation, the team arranged for the complainant to deliver the money, leading to the sub-inspector's arrest in the act. Yadav confirmed that the accused officer has been taken into custody, and the investigation is ongoing. Farenda station chief Yogendra Rai stated that the ACO team has arrested Ashraf, and a first information report (FIR) has been filed for necessary action.
