Rampur News: In Uttar Pradesh's Rampur, a groom has made headlines by rejecting the dowry system. During the engagement, the bride's family presented him with a cash gift of 12 lakh rupees, which he graciously returned. This act has garnered widespread admiration in the community. The groom, Shobhit Kumar, son of Chaudhary Malkhan Singh from Rasoolpur village, is set to marry the daughter of Chaudhary Yogendra from Bhuda Basantpur village in Bareilly district. The wedding ceremony took place on Thursday, followed by the engagement ritual on Friday.
Puneet Siwal, a district worker of the RSS from Rasoolpur, shared that during the engagement, Shobhit Kumar received the 12 lakh rupees in cash from the bride's family. He honored the gesture but subsequently returned the entire amount to the girl's father. Shobhit expressed that he desires a wife, not dowry, emphasizing that both giving and receiving dowry are curses for society. He believes that if society collectively resolves to eliminate dowry, it will facilitate marriages for daughters from poorer families and curb the violence and murders associated with dowry.

Puneet Siwal further noted that Shobhit Kumar is serving as a city propagator for the RSS in Bijnor. He actively engages in social issues and consistently strives for positive changes within the community.
Dowry Harassment Case in Ghaziabad
In a contrasting incident, in the village of Budhadih, Ghaziabad district, a newlywed woman faced harassment from her in-laws due to unmet dowry demands. They attempted to physically assault her and threatened her life. Following her complaint, the police registered a case against her husband and three others on Wednesday. The victim, Sandhya Yadav, reported that she married Ajay Yadav from Budhadih on April 22, 2022. Allegations state that about a year after their marriage, her husband, brother-in-law Abhishek Yadav, mother-in-law Radhika Devi, and sister-in-law Archana Devi began to harass her for dowry. She was reportedly thrown out of the house multiple times during this period. Inspector Ram Sajan Nagar confirmed that a case has been filed based on her complaint.
