Governor's Message on Women's Empowerment
On Thursday, Anandiben Patel, the Governor of Uttar Pradesh, emphasized the importance of women striving to be "excellent mothers" before pursuing careers as IAS officers or teachers. Speaking at the 41st convocation ceremony at a university in Kanpur, the 84-year-old urged young women to continue their education and careers even after marriage while contributing to their families and society. Addressing students, parents, and faculty, Patel, who also serves as the Chancellor of state universities, highlighted the significance of family values, parental responsibilities, and character development. She stated that the scope of education should extend beyond mere academic achievements.
Encouragement for Continuous Learning
Patel remarked, "Whether you aspire to be an IAS officer or a teacher, your first priority should be to become a skilled mother. Everyone should know how to cook at home." She also encouraged daughters not to abandon their studies after marriage and to utilize their knowledge and skills for nation-building. Furthermore, she advised parents to remain actively involved in their children's lives even after they enroll in schools and colleges. Parents should be aware of their children's activities in educational institutions, as any lapse in supervision could adversely affect their future.
Concerns Over Drug Use Near University Hostels
Expressing concern about drug use around university hostels, the Governor revealed that a monitoring team from the Raj Bhavan had uncovered instances of drug supply allegedly facilitated through food delivery containers. She noted that administrative intervention had dismantled this network. Linking the rise in domestic violence and crimes against women to declining moral values, Patel asserted that education should not be measured solely by degrees and marks. She pointed out that while degrees may be increasing, the prevalence of such crimes indicates a troubling reality about the state of education. Moral values are as crucial as academic knowledge.
