Overview of the Supplementary Budget

The Uttar Pradesh government introduced a supplementary budget of ₹24,000 crore for the fiscal year 2025-26 in the state assembly on Monday. This budget was presented by Finance and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna. The cabinet, led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, had already approved this budget. Introduced two months ahead of the next fiscal year, this supplementary budget is expected to boost certain projects and accelerate underfunded schemes.

Key Allocations in the Budget

Among the allocations, ₹50 crore has been earmarked specifically for subsidies on electric vehicles. This initiative aims to make it easier for residents to purchase e-scooters, e-rickshaws, and electric cars. Additionally, a symbolic amount of ₹1 lakh has been set aside for the construction of the second floor at the Transport Commissioner’s office in Block A. The government plans to cover this additional expenditure through savings in departmental budgets, ensuring no extra burden on the state treasury.

Government's Statement on the Supplementary Budget

The government stated that the supplementary budget is a standard financial procedure designed to address emerging needs, fund priority areas, and prevent delays in key programs due to budgetary constraints. Opposition leader Mata Prasad Pandey acknowledged the constitutional validity of presenting a supplementary budget but raised concerns regarding the circumstances under which it was introduced.
