Uttar Pradesh Government Launches Major Action Against Illegal Immigrants
Uttar Pradesh's Initiative Against Illegal Immigration
The government of Uttar Pradesh has initiated significant measures targeting alleged Rohingya and Bangladeshi infiltrators across the state. A senior official disclosed this information on Wednesday. According to the official, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has instructed 17 urban local bodies to compile a comprehensive list of illegal immigrants within their jurisdictions. These lists will be forwarded to the respective commissioners and inspectors general for further investigation.
Establishment of Detention Centers
The Chief Minister has directed the divisional commissioners and police inspectors general of all 18 divisions to set up a detention center in each division to hold illegal immigrants until their deportation. This directive follows earlier instructions to all district magistrates (DMs) to take swift and stringent action against infiltrators and illegal immigrants. Previously, DMs were tasked with establishing temporary detention centers within their districts.
Verification Campaign for Immigrant Identification
Commissioners and police inspectors general have been ordered to continue verification campaigns to identify Rohingya and Bangladeshi migrants. The Chief Minister has mandated that as soon as the lists are received from the respective municipal corporations, the commissioners and police inspectors general must ensure that all illegal immigrants in their divisions or areas are located, verified, and held in detention centers before being deported according to proper procedures.
Ongoing Efforts to Identify Illegal Immigrants
A government spokesperson confirmed that since the Chief Minister's directives on November 22, district magistrates and superintendents of police have been actively working to identify and locate illegal immigrants residing or working in the districts. In a statement released on November 23, the government noted that actions have intensified along the Nepal border and in major urban centers. The statement also highlighted that both the central and state governments are accelerating efforts to identify illegal foreign nationals.
