Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed officials to prioritize the safety and comfort of pilgrims attending the Khichdi Mela at Gorakhnath Temple. This significant religious event, which attracts visitors from various regions, will commence on Makar Sankranti, January 14, 2026. Adityanath emphasized the need for world-class facilities and effective management to ensure a positive experience for all attendees. The fair also serves as an opportunity to showcase Gorakhpur's development, with a focus on stringent security and cleanliness measures.
 

Safety Measures for the Upcoming Khichdi Mela

On Sunday, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath emphasized the importance of ensuring the safety, convenience, and comfort of devotees during the renowned Khichdi Mela at Gorakhnath Temple, which coincides with Makar Sankranti.


During a late evening meeting with senior officials, the Chief Minister reviewed preparations for the traditional Khichdi Mela, which begins on Makar Sankranti and lasts for over a month.


Adityanath highlighted that the Khichdi Mela is not only a significant religious event for pilgrims from eastern Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Nepal but also attracts visitors from across the country and abroad. Given its extensive spiritual significance, he stressed the need to provide world-class facilities for the attendees. Makar Sankranti is set to be celebrated on January 14, 2026.


The Chief Minister noted that this fair also serves as a vital opportunity to showcase the development of Gorakhpur, urging officials to ensure that visitors leave with a lasting positive impression of the city.


He instructed officials to implement stringent security measures, effective traffic management, well-maintained roads, clean restrooms, proper sanitation, adequate lighting, and arrangements for bonfires.
