Brahmin Community Meeting in Uttar Pradesh Assembly
During the winter session of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly, Brahmin legislators convened a meeting attended by nearly forty members. Legislator Ratnakar Mishra explained that the primary goal of this gathering was to discuss the issues facing their community. He expressed concern over the fragmentation of their community, noting that while previous generations lived together under one roof, the current trend of children gravitating towards Western culture is causing a rift.
Mishra emphasized that the meeting aimed to unite the younger generation and address the troubling trend of parents moving into old age homes. He questioned how to keep families together under one roof, which was a key reason for organizing the meeting. He elaborated on the role of Brahmins in society, stating that imparting values and culture is their responsibility. Therefore, he argued, if a meeting is held to promote these values, it should not be viewed negatively. In fact, he believes that every community should hold similar meetings to integrate everyone into the mainstream of Indian society.
He clarified that the meeting was not intended for political discussions. Mishra pointed out that there was no need for political debate, as the current government led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has eliminated mafia influence and improved overall governance. He also addressed the participation of various parties, stating, “About forty legislators attended this meeting, but I do not have information on which party they belong to, as I arrived a bit late and could not meet everyone.” He noted that other communities have previously held similar gatherings.
Mishra remarked, “Previously, legislators from the Thakur community also held a meeting, which was commendable. Legislators from the Kurmi community have done the same, and I believe other communities should also organize meetings to connect with the mainstream.” Meanwhile, P N Pathak, a BJP legislator from Kushinagar and organizer of the meeting, stated, “Yesterday, we held a significant meeting of Brahmin legislators. No members from other parties were present, and there was no political agenda for this gathering.” He dismissed media reports suggesting discontent among Brahmins, asserting that their focus is solely on upliftment and social welfare.
