US Navy Expands Maritime Route Near Oman to Facilitate Strait of Hormuz Traffic
Expansion of Maritime Route Near Oman
Dubai: On Saturday, a maritime organization under the US Navy announced the expansion of a shipping route through the Strait of Hormuz, located close to Oman, to accommodate both incoming and outgoing vessels.
This declaration from the Joint Maritime Information Centre serves as a clear signal to Iran that the US is intent on reopening this critical waterway.
Iran has maintained that vessels must adhere to its regulations and has issued warnings about potentially imposing transit fees for passage through the strait, a vital route for approximately 20% of the world's oil and natural gas.
Both the US and Gulf Arab nations have dismissed Iran's stipulations, asserting that the Strait is recognized globally as an international waterway, despite its location within the territorial waters of Iran and Oman.
