On Wednesday, the United States executed its twelfth consecutive night of military operations targeting Iranian sites, as tensions in the Middle East escalated. The US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced via a post on X that the latest strikes commenced at 5:30 PM ET, following directives from President Donald Trump. CENTCOM stated, "At 5:30 PM ET today, US forces initiated further strikes against Iranian military installations under the Commander in Chief's orders. This mission aims to diminish Iran's capacity to pose threats to civilian mariners and commercial vessels navigating regional waters." However, the US military did not disclose the specific locations targeted in Iran.

Explosions Reported in Southern Iran

Following the strikes, Iranian media reported multiple explosions across various regions of the country. According to Mehr News Agency, citing a provincial official from Khuzestan, a US missile attack targeted an area near Ahvaz. Additionally, the semi-official Fars News Agency reported two explosions near Bushehr, while Press TV noted further blasts in the southern town of Sirik.

Iran's Response to US Strikes

The recent US military actions coincided with reports of Iranian missiles and drones being launched towards Jordan, including the Red Sea port city of Aqaba, as per The Times of Israel. Jordan's military confirmed the interception of four missiles and four drones, stating that the explosions heard were due to the interception of these incoming threats. Similar interceptions were reported near Eilat in southern Israel. In Kuwait, the armed forces activated air defenses to counter drones launched from Iran, confirming that the sounds of explosions were linked to the interception of hostile drones.

Trump's Warnings to Iran

This escalation follows President Trump's warning that the US would target Iranian civilian infrastructure if Iran attacked shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. On Truth Social, Trump stated, "From this point forward, any time the Islamic Republic of Iran shoots at a ship in the Strait of Hormuz, whether it be by Missile, Rocket, Drone, or any other device or weapon, the United States will bomb and destroy ONE BRIDGE OR POWER PLANT." He indicated that potential targets could include infrastructure near or within Tehran.

Iran's Counter-Warnings

In response, Iranian officials issued their own threats. Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated on social media that Iran's defense strategy is based on an "eye for an eye" principle, asserting that any attack on Iranian infrastructure would provoke a "powerful and decisive response." Meanwhile, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, who is involved in peace negotiations for Iran, warned that if Iran's oil exports were hindered, no other country in the region would be able to export oil either. His comments seemed to reference the recent Houthi announcement regarding a blockade aimed at Saudi shipping in the Red Sea.

This renewed exchange of threats comes shortly after the deaths of four US service members in Jordan and Iraq, raising the total number of American military personnel fatalities in the conflict to 18. Despite these casualties, officials from the Trump administration have publicly attempted to minimize the impact of Iranian strikes on US military bases throughout the region.
