Strengthening US-Assam Relations

Sergio Gore announced that the United States is committed to identifying new areas of collaboration with Assam, emphasizing the potential for expanding commercial partnerships that would benefit both parties. Gore attended the swearing-in ceremony of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in Guwahati, marking Sarma's historic second consecutive term as the Chief Minister from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). After the ceremony, Gore expressed his pride in being invited to Guwahati on social media, noting the existing commercial ties between the US and Assam. He expressed optimism that under Sarma's leadership, both sides would discover many more mutually beneficial opportunities in the future.


NDA Leaders Congratulate New Government

On Tuesday, leaders from the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) extended their heartfelt congratulations to the newly formed BJP-led government in Assam, expressing confidence that the state would reach new heights of development. Himanta Biswa Sarma took the oath of office for the second time as Chief Minister, as the NDA secured a third consecutive term in the state. Alongside Sarma, four other ministers were sworn in as part of the new cabinet, including former Union Minister Rameshwar Teli, Assam Gana Parishad (AGP) President Atul Bora, United People's Party Liberal (UPPL) leader Chara Borah, and senior BJP leader Ajanta Neog. The ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, along with leaders and Chief Ministers from 22 NDA-ruled states.


Prime Minister's Message of Gratitude

Following the oath-taking ceremony, the Prime Minister congratulated Sarma and the ministers. Before departing from the event, he expressed gratitude to the public and those present on stage. Sarma shared on 'X', stating, "With the blessings of Maa Kamakhya, the great personality Srimanta Sankardev, and the people of Assam, I have taken the oath as Chief Minister. Together with the council of ministers, we are eager to serve the public and fulfill their aspirations." Neog, Bora, and Borah were members of Sarma's previous cabinet, while former Union Minister Teli made a return to state politics. Neog served as Finance Minister, Bora as Agriculture Minister, and Borah as Transport Minister. The NDA achieved a historic victory in the 126-member assembly elections, winning 102 seats, including 82 for the BJP. The BJP's allies, AGP and BPF, each secured 10 seats.
