Family Seeks Help from Authorities

Ahmedabad: A family from Ahmedabad is urgently requesting intervention from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Gujarat government following the disappearance of their 23-year-old son, a medical student in Georgia, who has been missing for 12 days amid allegations of harassment by his landlord and roommates.

Dhvanit Rajdeep, who resides in Virat Nagar, was pursuing his medical studies in the ninth semester at Caucasus International University. His family reported that the last communication with him occurred on May 14, after which his phone was disconnected and has remained off.

In an interview, his father, Dr. Mayur Kumar Rajdeep, claimed that Dhvanit had been subjected to ongoing mental harassment in his rented accommodation.

“Dhvanit was studying medicine in Georgia and had recently rented a flat from a local resident. His roommates were subjecting him to various forms of mental harassment, such as taking his food, preventing him from studying, and causing disturbances,” he explained.

He further stated that tensions escalated after Dhvanit decided to move to a different place and had already relocated some of his belongings.

“The day before he went missing, he had moved half of his things to a new flat. Following that, his flatmate Anil began threatening him, claiming they knew where he was going and would harm him. He also received death threats via messages, and Anil demanded money from him,” Dr. Rajdeep added.

Dr. Rajdeep mentioned that Dhvanit returned to the previous flat to retrieve his remaining belongings and return the keys.

“He went back to settle accounts, collect his things, and hand over the keys. Even there, he faced mental harassment. He called me to say that despite paying, he was still being tormented,” he recounted.

The family alleges that Dhvanit was coerced into transferring approximately $6,500 from his account while being confined and without access to his phone.

Dr. Rajdeep stated that they promptly notified officials at the Indian embassy and the university after losing contact with him.

“We immediately reached out to the Indian embassy and university officials. Our elder son has traveled to Georgia to assist in the search,” he noted.

Dhvanit’s mother, Dharmishtha Rajdeep, made a heartfelt appeal to the authorities.

“I last spoke with my son on the 13th. The following day, he communicated with my husband. When I spoke to him, he mentioned he had arrived at the new flat with his luggage. Our last contact was on the 14th. Since then, we have been unable to reach him. I urge the government to engage with the Georgian authorities,” she expressed.

“Our sole request is for my son to be returned swiftly. He is a dedicated scholar who worked diligently. He was expected to return in September after completing his medical degree. I earnestly ask the Gujarat government to expedite his return,” she added.

The family reported that Dhvanit’s elder brother, Mihir Rajdeep, has arrived in Georgia from Canada and is coordinating with local police and university officials.

Despite receiving assistance from the Indian Embassy and outreach from local political figures, the family claims they have not received any substantial updates and assert that the local police and administration in Georgia have not acted adequately regarding their complaint.

With no sign of the student nearly two weeks after his disappearance, the family is now urging both the central government and the Gujarat administration to enhance diplomatic efforts to ensure his safe return.
