Urgent Call for Road Repairs in Dima Hasao District
Residents Demand Immediate Road Repairs
Haflong, Jan 11: In Dima Hasao district, the inhabitants of Retzawl village are voicing a pressing demand for the urgent blacktopping of the deteriorating Jatinga-Retzawl segment of the old Haflong-Silchar road. They argue that while the government prioritizes major highway enhancements, essential local routes are being overlooked.
Thilsinghluo Tuolor, the headman of Retzawl, expressed his discontent regarding this imbalance. He questioned, “While the government is rapidly advancing the Jatinga-Harangajao section of NH-27, why is it neglecting the basic needs of villages like Retzawl, Arda, and Doheng?”
These communities lack alternative routes, leaving residents dependent on a road that is prone to landslides and adverse weather conditions.
Although the villagers are pleased with the progress on the long-awaited Saurashtra-to-Silchar road, also referred to as NH-27, which is set to open at least one lane by January 31, as per a Cabinet Minister's announcement, they feel that relief for Retzawl and surrounding areas is still out of reach.
The headman urged the authorities, stating, “We ask you to hear our plea and properly repair this section. Blacktopping is crucial for our daily activities, including access to markets, schools, and healthcare.”
Community leaders highlighted that the road's poor state intensifies difficulties, particularly during the monsoon season, isolating the villages from Haflong and other areas. The locals are hopeful that their request will gain attention amidst the ongoing infrastructure developments in the region.
