BCCI's Endorsement of UPT20 League

Rajeev Shukla, the Vice-President of BCCI, commended the UPT20 League for its significant contribution to nurturing young cricket talent in Uttar Pradesh, providing them with valuable opportunities. The fourth season of the UPT20 League is set to kick off on August 14, featuring an opening match between Kashi Rudras and Meerut Mavericks, as announced in a recent press release.

A Gateway to the IPL

"This marks the fourth season of the UPT20 League, and its influence over the past three years is evident. This year, 18 players from Uttar Pradesh participated in the IPL, many of whom gained recognition through their performances in the UPT20 League. IPL scouts are keenly interested in this tournament, making it a crucial platform for emerging cricketers to display their skills and secure opportunities at the highest level," Shukla stated.

UPCA Speed Hunt: Cultivating Fast Bowling Talent

Shukla also praised the UPCA Speed Hunt initiative, aimed at discovering promising fast bowlers statewide. "The UPCA Speed Hunt has proven to be a significant success. This year, 38 bowlers, all consistently exceeding 134 km/h, were included in the auction. This demonstrates that talented players from all regions of Uttar Pradesh now have a pathway to the UPT20 League and ultimately the IPL," he remarked. He emphasized that each franchise should consider signing at least one player from the UPCA Speed Hunt among their uncapped selections.

Looking Ahead: Potential Expansion

Discussing the tournament's future, Shukla mentioned that the possibility of adding more teams is being considered. "After three successful seasons, the league has established itself. If the Governing Council suggests expanding beyond six teams, the Apex Council will definitely take it into account. Our priority has always been to create a robust and sustainable league before pursuing further expansion," he explained.

Cricket Development Across Uttar Pradesh

He also reiterated the league's commitment to promoting cricket throughout Uttar Pradesh. "Hosting the auction in Agra was part of our vision to enhance the cricketing landscape in the city. Infrastructure is crucial, and as we develop more quality venues across the state, we will continue to seek opportunities for league expansion," he added.
