Upendra Kushwaha Rejects Merger with BJP, Implications for Deepak Prakash's Ministerial Role

In a significant political development, Upendra Kushwaha has firmly rejected the BJP's proposal to merge his party, raising doubts about Deepak Prakash's future as a minister. Despite previous offers, Kushwaha remains committed to maintaining his party's independence within the NDA. As the Bihar Assembly elections approach, the implications of this decision could reshape the political landscape. With Prakash yet to be confirmed as the NDA candidate, the situation remains fluid. Stay tuned for updates on this evolving story.

Kushwaha's Firm Stance on Party Independence

After Upendra Kushwaha, the leader of the Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM), declined the offer to merge his party with the BJP, the likelihood of Deepak Prakash retaining his ministerial position appears to be diminishing. Sources indicate that the BJP had proposed the merger to consolidate its coalition partners. However, Kushwaha opted to maintain his party's distinct identity while remaining within the NDA.

Reports suggest that a similar merger proposal was presented when Deepak Prakash was first inducted into the cabinet in November 2025. Despite the offer being rejected by Kushwaha at that time, the BJP included Prakash in the cabinet, hoping that the evolving political landscape and concerns regarding Kushwaha's son's future might lead to a change of heart. Nevertheless, Kushwaha remains steadfast in his position. During a party event on Tuesday, he emphasized to his supporters that the interests of the party outweigh personal or familial interests.

According to sources, Kushwaha has reiterated his decision against merging with the BJP. He is expected to remain within the NDA, while Deepak Prakash will serve as a minister only until the constitutionally mandated six-month period concludes. Currently, Upendra Kushwaha is not willing to make any public statements, as this information was shared during an off-the-record phone conversation.
