Enhanced Support for Transport Workers' Families

In a significant move, the Uttar Pradesh government has decided to increase the financial assistance provided to the families of transport employees who pass away under unfortunate circumstances. The amount has been raised to ₹20,000 for funeral expenses, applicable to all categories of employees including regular, contractual, and outsourced workers.

Previously, the assistance was limited to just ₹5,000. This decision was announced by Prabhu N. Singh, the Managing Director of the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation, who issued the necessary orders regarding this change. The earlier amount was deducted from the dues payable to the deceased employees by the corporation.

During the 253rd meeting of the corporation's board of directors, it was resolved that the increased amount would be sourced from the Passenger Relief and Safety Fund. Girish Chandra Mishra, the General Secretary of the Roadways Employees Union in Uttar Pradesh, expressed gratitude to the Managing Director for this decision.

Transport Minister's Statement

Transport Minister (Independent Charge) Dayashankar Singh commented that this provision has been implemented under the Passenger Relief and Safety Scheme of the state road transport corporation. He noted that this scheme will now encompass all types of employees, including regular, contractual, and outsourced workers.

Previously, dependents received only ₹5,000 in assistance, which was later deducted from the employees' salaries. However, under the new arrangement, this amount has been increased to ₹20,000, which will be provided by the government. The minister also mentioned that the transport corporation is continuously training its drivers and conductors to reduce road accidents. In the unfortunate event of an employee's death during an accident, this amount will serve as support for their family.
