UP Government Increases Funeral Assistance for Transport Employees
Enhanced Support for Transport Workers' Families
In a significant move, the Uttar Pradesh government has decided to increase the financial assistance provided to the families of transport employees who pass away under unfortunate circumstances. The amount has been raised to ₹20,000 for funeral expenses, applicable to all categories of employees including regular, contractual, and outsourced workers.
Previously, the assistance was limited to just ₹5,000. This decision was announced by Prabhu N. Singh, the Managing Director of the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation, who has issued the necessary orders. The earlier amount was deducted from the dues payable to the deceased employees by the corporation. With this new policy, not only has the assistance amount been increased, but the deduction from employees' dues has also been eliminated. The decision to provide ₹20,000 for funeral expenses will be funded through the Passenger Relief and Safety Scheme.
Girish Chandra Mishra, the General Secretary of the Roadways Employees Union in Uttar Pradesh, expressed gratitude to the Managing Director for this decision.
Transport Minister's Statement
Transport Minister (Independent Charge) Dayashankar Singh stated that this provision has been implemented under the Passenger Relief and Safety Scheme of the state road transport corporation. He mentioned that now all types of employees, including regular, contractual, and outsourced, will be covered under this scheme. Previously, dependents received only ₹5,000, which was later deducted from the employees' salaries. However, under the new arrangement, this amount has been increased to ₹20,000, which will be provided by the government.
The minister also noted that the transport corporation is continuously training its drivers and conductors to reduce road accidents. In the unfortunate event of an accident resulting in the death of an employee, this amount will be provided to their family as assistance.
