Union Sports Minister to Launch Indoor Sports Complex in Shillong

Shillong, May 28: Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya is set to inaugurate a state-of-the-art multipurpose indoor sports complex in Shillong and assess Meghalaya's readiness to host the National Games during his three-day visit starting May 29.
According to officials, Mandaviya will engage in various activities focused on youth affairs, the development of sports infrastructure, and the evaluation of centrally funded schemes throughout his stay.
On May 30, he will officially open the indoor sports complex in the state capital, which has been constructed at a cost of Rs 132.9 crore, alongside Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma.
Additionally, during this visit, the contract for hosting the 39th National Games in 2026 will be signed with Meghalaya, in the presence of representatives from the Indian Olympic Association and other notable guests.
The Union minister is also expected to participate in a brainstorming session organized by the Youth Affairs Department, with the involvement of Meghalaya's Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Shakliar Warjri and senior officials.
On May 31, Mandaviya will review the progress and implementation of centrally sponsored schemes in the Ri-Bhoi district as part of the Poorvottar Sampark Setu initiative.
Officials noted that this visit underscores the Centre's ongoing commitment to enhancing youth engagement, advancing sports infrastructure, and fostering comprehensive development in the Northeast region.
