Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya to Visit Meghalaya for Youth and Sports Initiatives

Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya is scheduled to visit Shillong, Meghalaya, from May 29 to May 31. Overview of the Visit

Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Mansukh Mandaviya, is set to embark on a three-day trip to Shillong, Meghalaya, from May 29 to May 31. His agenda includes participating in various programs focused on youth affairs, enhancing sports infrastructure, and reviewing centrally sponsored schemes within the state. The visit will also feature the Chintan Shivir organized by the Department of Youth Affairs, with the presence of Meghalaya's Sports and Youth Affairs Minister, Wailadmiki Shylla, along with other senior officials.


Inauguration of Sports Complex and National Games 2027

On May 30, Mandaviya will inaugurate the Integrated Multipurpose Indoor Sports Complex in Shillong, alongside Meghalaya's Chief Minister, Conrad K. Sangma. This facility, which has a development cost of Rs 132.9 crore, is designed to be a state-of-the-art venue for various sports, including basketball, badminton, and volleyball. It aims to serve as a significant location for the upcoming National Games and will feature multipurpose halls, an auditorium, and banquet facilities.


Additionally, the Host State Contract for the 39th National Games 2027 will be formalized with Meghalaya, in the presence of dignitaries and representatives from the Indian Olympic Association.


Review of Sports Infrastructure and Schemes

During his visit, Mandaviya will also conduct a review meeting to assess preparations for the 39th National Games 2027. This meeting will involve presentations and discussions with officials from Meghalaya and other Northeastern states.


Moreover, he will inspect the Umsawli Sports Complex in Shillong, focusing on the aquatics and tennis facilities to evaluate the ongoing sports infrastructure development in the region.


On May 31, the Minister will review the progress of centrally sponsored schemes in the Ri-Bhoi district of Meghalaya, particularly under the Poorvottar Sampark Setu initiative.


This three-day visit underscores the Government of India's dedication to enhancing youth engagement, advancing sports infrastructure, and fostering comprehensive development in the Northeastern region.
