Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya Promotes Sports and Fitness in Keralam
Minister's Visit to Keralam
On Tuesday, Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Mansukh Mandaviya, will be in Keralam to engage in various activities aimed at enhancing fitness, sports excellence, and encouraging widespread participation in sports. His visit will kick off with the 'Cycling by the Sea' event, which will take place from Chackai ITI to Shankumugham Beach in Thiruvananthapuram, as stated in a press release from the Sports Ministry.
Promoting the Fit India Movement
This initiative is aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Fit India Movement, which aims to inspire individuals to lead active and healthy lifestyles through cycling and other fitness-related activities. During his time in Keralam, Mandaviya will also tour the G.V. Raja Sports School in Mylom, a prestigious institution known for producing numerous athletes who have excelled in Indian sports. This visit underscores the government's commitment to enhancing grassroots sports development and fostering young talent.
Participation in the Fun Run Event
Later in the day, the Union Minister will take part in the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games Fun Run at the Kerala University Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram. This event is part of the promotional activities leading up to the 2026 Asian Games and coincides with the celebrations of International Olympic Day.
The Fun Run is anticipated to attract over 40,000 participants, including students, athletes, youth volunteers, and community members. This large-scale event aims to celebrate sportsmanship and collective participation while showcasing Keralam's dynamic sporting culture and enhancing public involvement with the Asian Games.
Celebrating International Yoga Day
Previously, on Sunday, Mandaviya participated in a mass yoga session at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi, commemorating the 12th International Yoga Day. He encouraged citizens to incorporate yoga into their daily routines, referring to it as India's contribution to the world.
The session saw over 3,000 participants, with Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar joining Mandaviya and others in practicing yoga. During his address, Mandaviya emphasized the cultural and global importance of yoga and urged people to adopt it as a regular practice.
