On Thursday, Mansukh Mandaviya, the Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, attended a special screening of the documentary 'Bicharpur - Junoon Football Ka'. This film showcases inspiring narratives from grassroots football and emphasizes the significant role of sports in transforming society.
The Role of Sports in Shaping Lives
During his address following the screening, Mandaviya highlighted the potential of sports to influence young individuals positively. He articulated that sports extend beyond mere competition; they embody a lifestyle that fosters culture, discipline, mental strength, and a sense of community. He remarked, "Twenty-five years ago, many youths were heading in the wrong direction, but their engagement with sports turned their lives around. Sports provide direction to emerging leaders and channel their energy in a constructive manner," as stated by the Union Sports Ministry.
Community Engagement in Sports
The Minister also pointed out the broader social benefits of community involvement in sports, citing the Kodava community of Coorg and their rich hockey tradition. He noted that such community-led sporting initiatives promote unity, discipline, shared responsibility, and national pride. "Sports fosters a sense of togetherness and a commitment to the nation. While individuals engage in sports for personal growth, they simultaneously bring honor to the country," he added.
Importance of Documenting Sporting Journeys
Dr. Mandaviya emphasized the significance of storytelling in preserving the journeys of grassroots athletes. He stated, "Documenting efforts serves as an inspiration. These narratives can motivate youth and entire communities." Furthermore, he underscored the necessity of recognizing and encouraging talent in sports, noting that platforms that celebrate achievements help build self-esteem among young people and contribute to national pride.
