Union Minister Highlights Literature's Role in Cultural Dialogue

Promoting Cultural Connections Through Literature

Guwahati, Dec 28: On Sunday, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal emphasized the importance of literature in enhancing cultural exchanges.

During the launch of a Hindi book dedicated to Bharat Ratna recipient Bhupen Hazarika, titled Bhupen da ka surila safar (Bhupen Da’s Melodious Journey), Sonowal remarked that literature documenting the achievements of regional icons in various languages fosters emotional and intellectual bonds throughout India.

He stated, “The music of Bhupen da is rooted in profound human empathy, social awareness, and a steadfast dedication to unity and harmony. This Hindi publication will act as a vital link, bringing the rich cultural heritage of the Northeast to the Hindi-speaking regions of our nation.”

The former Chief Minister of Assam pointed out that such literary projects are essential for enhancing cultural dialogue and creating emotional and intellectual ties between the Northeast and other parts of India.

He also mentioned that this book would aid younger audiences in grasping and valuing Hazarika’s philosophies, ideals, and timeless artistic vision.

Authored by Guwahati journalist Azhar Alam, the 184-page book is published by the Assam Rashtra Bhasha Prachar Samiti.

It chronicles the life, creative brilliance, and lasting impact of Bhupen Hazarika, who is celebrated as one of India’s most significant cultural icons.

This release coincides with the ongoing year-long centenary celebrations of Bhupen Hazarika, which commenced on September 8, aiming to honor the maestro’s enduring contributions to music, literature, and social thought.
