Union Health Minister JP Nadda to Visit Assam Amid Flood Recovery Efforts

Guwahati, August 4: Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda is set to arrive in Assam on Tuesday for a three-day visit to the Northeast, focusing on reviewing the flood-affected regions in Upper Assam.

As per the official itinerary, Nadda will land in Dibrugarh from New Delhi on Tuesday and will spend the night there.

On August 5, he plans to visit Charaideo district before heading to Mon district in Nagaland for official duties.

Afterward, he will return to Dibrugarh for a meeting with the Assam government, followed by local engagements. He will again stay overnight in Dibrugarh before traveling to Yazali in Arunachal Pradesh's Keyi Panyor district on August 6 for further official activities.

Assam BJP president Dilip Saikia confirmed the visit on social media, stating, "Hon'ble Union Minister Shri @JPNadda Ji will visit Assam on the 4th and 5th of August to take note of the aftermath of the flood situation.”

Nadda's visit is timely, as there have been increasing calls for senior NDA leaders to assess the situation in flood-affected Assam following this year's severe flooding.

Previously, the Asam Sahitya Sabha had urged the Prime Minister to visit the most impacted districts, where numerous families are still dealing with the flood aftermath.

The state's leading literary organization also requested the central government to classify Assam's recurring floods as a national disaster.

Various organizations and civil society groups have similarly urged the Prime Minister to visit the affected areas to witness the extent of the devastation firsthand.

As of Tuesday, the flood death toll in Assam has reached 87, with two additional fatalities reported in Sivasagar district. Approximately 130,000 individuals remain affected, despite improvements in the overall situation.

The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) reported that water levels are receding in most flooded areas of Upper Assam, although some overnight rainfall was noted in several districts.

"While we received reports of overnight rain from many flood-affected Upper Assam districts, water levels are continuing to drop in the inundated villages, providing some relief to residents," an ASDMA official stated.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is currently on a four-day tour of the flood-impacted districts in Upper Assam, including Sivasagar and Charaideo, to assess the flood situation and the ongoing relief and rehabilitation efforts.
