Surprise Rainfall in Delhi and NCR

On Friday morning, a sudden downpour occurred in Delhi and surrounding cities in the National Capital Region (NCR), catching residents off guard. This unexpected rain came despite the weather department's earlier forecasts indicating no precipitation for the capital and NCR, which are currently experiencing dense fog and severe cold. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted light to moderate rain in the capital and parts of Haryana and Rajasthan over the next two hours, with expectations of further temperature drops.

The regional meteorological center in Delhi reported in its morning update that light rain is anticipated in several areas, including Preet Vihar, ITO, India Gate, Akshardham, Safdarjung, Lodhi Road, RK Puram, and Defence Colony. The department also mentioned that light intermittent showers may continue in areas such as Mundka, West Vihar, Rajouri Garden, Rajiv Chowk, Dwarka, Delhi Cantt, and IGI Airport zone.

In addition to the capital, the IMD forecasts rain in Noida, Indirapuram, Chapparola, Dadri, Greater Noida, Gurugram, Faridabad, Manesar, Ballabgarh, Sohna, Palwal, and Tijara. Other NCR locations such as Bahadurgarh, Karnal, Panipat, Gohana, Rohtak, Rewari, Nandgaon, Khairthal, and Kotputli may also experience rainfall in the next two hours as the weather system progresses through the region.

The weather department has issued a yellow alert for dense fog in Delhi on Friday. The minimum temperature is expected to hover around 6 degrees Celsius, while the maximum may reach approximately 17 degrees Celsius. According to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), there was a slight improvement in the air quality index (AQI) in the national capital on Thursday morning, measuring 276, which falls into the poor category. The CPCB classifies AQI levels as follows: 0-50 is 'good', 51-100 is 'satisfactory', 101-200 is 'moderate', 201-300 is 'poor', 301-400 is 'very poor', and 401-500 is 'severe'.
