How Many Days in Advance Should You Book Your Train Ticket?
Firstly, it's essential to note that each train category has different amenities, fares, and ticket requirements. Every rail passenger should understand these guidelines. More importantly, it's crucial to know how far in advance you can buy your ticket before the train departs (Advance Train Ticket Booking). You might be surprised to learn that tickets can be purchased up to 120 days before the train's departure.
The Indian Railways allows ticket reservations up to 120 days or four months in advance, enabling customers to book their tickets with confidence and secure a confirmed seat. Additionally, passengers can purchase emergency tickets the day before the departure date. In other words, the railway has also considered the need for quick action in emergencies.
Every day at 10 AM, reservations open for Third AC and higher classes. For sleeper class, ticket sales will commence at 11 AM. Through the UTS app, passengers can only buy unreserved train tickets on the day of travel.
There are specific rules for general tickets. To purchase a general entry ticket, two guidelines must be followed. If you plan to travel 199 kilometers in a train's general compartment, you must buy your ticket on the same day. This is because a standard ticket purchased for a journey of up to 199 kilometers is valid for only three hours. You must board the train within three hours of purchasing the regular ticket. However, for journeys exceeding 200 kilometers, public tickets can be bought up to three days in advance.
