Kyiv: On Monday, a drone strike launched by Ukraine targeted the Russian city of Nizhnekamsk, resulting in the deaths of 12 individuals and injuring 39 others, as reported by officials in the Tatarstan region.

In recent months, Ukraine has consistently aimed its long-range drones at Russian oil installations, leading to significant fuel shortages and disruptions in Russia's refining capabilities, which have caused unrest among the Russian populace.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has stated that these actions are part of a strategy to compel Russian President Vladimir Putin to engage in negotiations and bring an end to the ongoing invasion that has persisted for over four years.

The drone assault on Nizhnekamsk, which occurred early Monday, specifically targeted both industrial and civilian sites, according to the press office of Tatarstan's leader, Rustam Minnikhanov.

Located approximately 1,200 kilometers from the Ukrainian border, Nizhnekamsk is a crucial oil refining center, housing two refineries and a petrochemical facility, with a population nearing 240,000.

Zelenskyy emphasized on social media late Sunday that Ukraine will continue to deliver justified responses to every Russian attack, asserting that the consequences of Russia's war will increasingly be felt within its own borders.

He further remarked that the ongoing conflict is sustained solely by Russia's refusal to conclude the war.
