UIDAI Introduces Online Aadhaar Update System for Enhanced User Experience
Major Reforms in Aadhaar Update Process
New Delhi, Nov 1: In a pivotal step towards enhancing digital convenience for Aadhaar cardholders, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has unveiled significant reforms aimed at expediting Aadhaar updates. These changes will take effect starting Saturday.
With the new system, individuals can now update essential information such as their name, address, date of birth, or mobile number directly via the UIDAI website, removing the necessity to visit enrollment centers.
The submitted information will undergo digital verification against linked government documents, including PAN cards, passports, driving licenses, or ration cards, ensuring both efficiency and precision.
Moreover, the government has set a deadline for linking Aadhaar with PAN cards by December 31, 2025. Any PAN cards that remain unlinked will be deactivated starting January 1, 2026.
New applicants for PAN will also be required to complete an Aadhaar-based verification process.
In addition, UIDAI has simplified the digital Know Your Customer (KYC) process for banks and financial institutions, allowing users to verify their identity through video KYC, Aadhaar OTP-based authentication, or optional in-person verification.
A revised service fee structure has also been introduced, effective November 1. Under this new scheme, Aadhaar reprints will cost Rs 40, biometric updates will be charged at Rs 125, and demographic updates will incur a fee of Rs 75. For home enrollment, the first applicant will be charged Rs 700, while each additional person at the same address will pay Rs 350.
These digital-first reforms aim to enhance the security and usability of Aadhaar services, enabling citizens to manage their identity records conveniently from home.
Previously, cardholders were required to visit an Aadhaar Seva Kendra for any updates or corrections. The latest reforms transition the entire process online through the UIDAI portal.
