Thackeray Brothers Unite for Political Alliance
Sanjay Raut, a member of the Shiv Sena (UBT), announced that former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and MNS leader Raj Thackeray will officially reveal their alliance on Wednesday. Raut described this moment as both emotional and politically significant, emphasizing that the reunion of the Thackeray brothers has been long awaited. He stated, "Today, Uddhav ji and Raj Thackeray will come together to announce their electoral alliance. This is a moment of great joy for Maharashtra and all Marathi people."
Raut highlighted that Balasaheb Thackeray founded Shiv Sena for the sons of the soil. After two decades of separation, the Thackeray brothers have reunited, and Maharashtra has endured much during this time. They have come together to teach the BJP a lesson and to put an end to the ongoing looting in Mumbai. Raut confirmed that they will contest elections together in all ten municipal corporations of Mumbai. In a significant political development ahead of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections, Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) are set to announce their electoral alliance.
Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA Sachin Ahir echoed similar sentiments, calling this event a pivotal moment in the state's political landscape. He remarked that the coming together of the Thackeray families was essential for Maharashtra and would inspire hope among the BJP's opponents. Ahir told a news outlet, "Today is a historic day in Maharashtra politics as the Thackeray family reunites. This is much needed for the state and a beacon of hope. The announcement will be made this afternoon... Opponents of the BJP must unite."
The Maharashtra State Election Commission has announced elections for 29 municipal corporations across the state, including the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), and Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC). Voting is scheduled for January 15, with counting set for January 16. Meanwhile, the BJP, Shiv Sena, and NCP's Mahayuti alliance have achieved significant victories in all 286 local body elections. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis congratulated BJP workers on their success, stating that this performance is a "trailer" for the upcoming municipal elections.
