Itanagar, June 30: In a significant development, two members of the NSCN-K (Nikki Sumi) faction have surrendered in the Tirap district of Arunachal Pradesh.

A spokesperson for the defense confirmed on Tuesday that the insurgents voluntarily surrendered their weapons to the Assam Rifles and the Arunachal Pradesh Police in the Kheti region of the district, located in the southeastern part of the state.

Tirap district, which borders Assam, Nagaland, and Myanmar, has a history of insurgent activities.

During their surrender, the militants handed over two pistols, several magazines, and eight live rounds of ammunition. They have been taken into custody to undergo legal processes and rehabilitation in accordance with government policies, as stated by the Assam Rifles in a social media update.

The spokesperson emphasized that this surrender demonstrates the increasing trust of local youth in the security forces and the government's efforts to reintegrate misguided individuals into society.

“This event signifies ongoing efforts to restore peace and stability while motivating misguided youth to pursue development and contribute to nation-building,” the defense spokesperson noted in a social media post.

He reiterated the commitment of security forces to encourage more misguided youths to abandon violence and choose the path of peace and development.

The NSCN-K is divided into several factions, with the NSCN-K (Nikki Sumi) faction notably not having signed a ceasefire agreement with the central government.

In contrast, other Naga insurgent groups, such as the Isak-Muivah faction of the National Socialist Council of Nagalim (NSCN-IM), have entered into ceasefire agreements with the government and are currently engaged in peace negotiations.
