Surrender of Maoist Members in Jharkhand

Ranchi, August 7 - In a significant development in the Western Singhbhum district of Jharkhand, two female members of the banned organization, the Communist Party of India (Maoist), surrendered to security forces on Friday. A police official confirmed this information, noting that one of the surrendered members was a zonal committee member with a bounty of ₹10 lakh on her head.

The official identified the zonal committee member as Saluka Kayam, while one of the female rebels, Kodomuni Koda, had a reward of ₹1 lakh announced for her capture. The official stated, “Saluka Kayam surrendered as a result of ongoing operations conducted by the police, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and other security forces in the Saranda and Kolhan forests.”

Kayam, a resident of Sonua in Western Singhbhum, was active in the group led by CPI (Maoist) Politburo member Misir Besra, who has a bounty of over ₹2 crore and is wanted in 175 cases. Besra was arrested at the end of last month. The official mentioned that Kayam had been actively involved with the Maoist organization for several years and faced charges including IED explosions targeting security forces, murder, extortion, and damage to government property.
