Two Arrested for Alleged Rape of Minor in West Bengal

Kolkata, September 14: Authorities in West Bengal have detained two young men in connection with the alleged rape of a 14-year-old girl in the Habra region of North 24 Parganas district. Reports indicate that the suspects made the girl consume intoxicants before the incident, as stated by police officials on Monday.
Details of the Incident
As per police reports, the girl was visiting her uncle's home in the Habra Municipality. On Saturday evening, a female acquaintance from the area reportedly led her to the residence of a local young man. A gathering was held on the rooftop, where another young man was also present.
Investigators revealed that the girl was allegedly forced to drink alcohol mixed with drugs. Following this, the group went for a walk, during which the two young men are accused of sexually assaulting her in a wooded area near a local Shiva temple.
Aftermath and Investigation
According to police, the suspects left the girl unconscious in the area and fled the scene. The other girl who was with her returned home. When the victim did not arrive home by late evening, her family reported her missing at the Habra Police Station.
In response to the complaint, police initiated a search operation. After questioning the other girl, they located and rescued the victim early Sunday morning. She was found unconscious and was promptly taken to Habra State General Hospital, where she is currently receiving medical care.
Arrests Made
Following the family's report, police launched an investigation and arrested the two suspects on Sunday night. Officials noted that one of the arrested individuals had a prior history of misconduct involving women.
A senior officer from the Barasat Police District confirmed that both suspects were apprehended based on the victim's family's complaint and are currently undergoing interrogation. The investigation is ongoing.
Family's Reaction
The victim's father expressed his outrage, demanding severe punishment for the accused, stating that the family never anticipated such a horrific event during a simple visit to a friend's neighborhood.
"The girl went to visit her uncle's neighborhood friend in good faith. But no one could imagine that the consequences would be so terrible. I demand exemplary punishment for the two accused youths," he stated.
