TVK Secures Majority in Tamil Nadu Government Formation
Major Development in Tamil Nadu Government Formation
A significant breakthrough has occurred in the formation of the government in Tamil Nadu. The TVK party, led by Vijay, has achieved a majority as the leftist parties, CPI and CPM, have decided to extend their support. The executive committee of CPI, along with the state committee of CPI-M and VCK, has resolved to back TVK. Furthermore, both legislators from VCK have also pledged their support. A press conference is scheduled for 4:30 PM today, where the official announcement will be made by the three parties.
Meeting with the Governor
In related news, official sources indicate that Vijay, the leader of TVK, will meet Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar this evening regarding the government formation. This will mark their third meeting this week to present the claim for forming the government. A source from TVK mentioned that Vijay will outline their position on government formation during this meeting. Earlier in the day, the CPI executive committee convened to discuss supporting TVK in forming the government. They are weighing the pros and cons of this decision and will clarify their stance by the end of the day.
CPI's Position on Support
CPI General Secretary D. Raja stated that their party is currently deliberating on this matter in Tamil Nadu and also in Delhi. He assured that clarity on their decision would be provided by this evening. Regarding the alleged delay by the Governor in inviting TVK to form the government, Raja emphasized that the Governor should respect the public mandate, which favors TVK. He asserted that TVK is the largest party and should be invited to form the government, urging the Governor to avoid creating obstacles and adhere to tradition.
VCK's High-Level Meeting
Thol Thirumavalavan, the president of VCK, has called for a high-level committee meeting today to determine whether to support Vijay's Tamilga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK). In the recent elections, TVK secured 108 seats, falling short of the magical figure of 118 in the 234-seat state assembly. This meeting, conducted via Zoom, is scheduled for 5 PM today. VCK won two seats in the Tamil Nadu assembly elections, with results announced on May 4.
