Trump Suggests Regime Change in Iran Following US Strikes on Nuclear Facilities
Trump's Remarks on Iran's Leadership
In the wake of the United States' significant military strikes on Iran's nuclear sites, President Donald Trump indicated on Sunday the potential for a 'regime change' in the country. He expressed skepticism about the current leadership's capability to restore Iran's greatness. On his Truth Social platform, Trump remarked, 'While it may not be politically correct to say 'Regime Change,' if the existing Iranian regime cannot MAKE IRAN GREAT AGAIN, why wouldn't there be a regime change??? MIGA!!!'
Military Successes Highlighted
In another post, Trump praised the military's effectiveness, stating, 'The damage to the nuclear sites in Iran is reported to be monumental. The strikes were precise and impactful, showcasing our military's great skill.' He also mentioned, 'The GREAT B-2 pilots have just landed safely in Missouri. Thank you for a job well done!!! DONALD J. TRUMP, PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES!'
Operation Midnight Hammer Details
Trump's comments followed the US's launch of Operation Midnight Hammer, which targeted three critical nuclear facilities in Iran: Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan. US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth confirmed the operation's success during a media briefing alongside Air Force General Dan Caine, Chairperson of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Hegseth stated that the precision strikes were aimed at significantly damaging Iran's nuclear program.
Official Statements on the Operation
'Last night, under President Trump's directive, the US Central Command executed a precision strike against three nuclear facilities in Iran to either destroy or severely impair Iran's nuclear capabilities. As the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs will confirm, it was an extraordinary success,' Hegseth remarked.
He emphasized that the orders from the President were unambiguous, stating that they 'obliterated' Iran's nuclear ambitions. 'The directive we received from our Commander-in-Chief was focused, powerful, and clear. We devastated the Iranian nuclear program,' he added. Hegseth clarified that the operation did not target Iranian military personnel or civilians, noting, 'It's important to highlight that the operation was not aimed at Iranian troops or the Iranian populace.' However, he also mentioned that the mission was 'not and has not been about regime change' but rather aimed at hindering Iran's nuclear aspirations.
