Trump Expresses Interest in Meeting Iran's Supreme Leader Amid Diplomatic Talks
Trump's Remarks on Potential Meeting with Khamenei
On Tuesday, US President Donald Trump indicated a willingness to engage with Iran's Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, should diplomatic relations improve. During an interview with a prominent news outlet, Trump responded to a question about meeting Khamenei by stating, "I've never considered it, but it's an interesting idea. I would like to meet him. I’m open to meeting everyone, and it’s possible we will meet depending on future developments."
Trump Acknowledges Khamenei's Role in Iran:In the same interview, Trump recognized that Khamenei holds significant decision-making power in Iran. He remarked, "It’s said that he (Mojtaba Khamenei) has the final say, as has been the case for many years. It appears to be a continuation from his father to him. However, our interactions seem to be progressing positively." Notably, Mojtaba ascended to the position of Supreme Leader following the death of his father, Ali Khamenei, during US and Israeli airstrikes on February 28. Reports suggest that Mojtaba was also injured in the incident.
Ali Khamenei led Iran for nearly 37 years. Since the military action by the US and Israel, Mojtaba has refrained from making public appearances, although his threats against the US have been broadcast on Iranian media.
