Trump Discusses Iran's Leadership Amid Ongoing Military Strikes
US President Comments on Iran's Future
On Tuesday, US President Donald Trump addressed the situation regarding Iran's leadership, revealing that recent US-Israeli military operations have resulted in the deaths of several individuals he considered potential successors to Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. During a meeting with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz in the Oval Office, Trump informed the press that a significant new strike had targeted a gathering focused on Iran's future leadership, indicating a forthcoming "third wave" of military action. This escalation follows the assassination of Iran's Supreme Leader during the initial phase of 'Operation Epic Fury'.
Trump stated, "As you know, 49 individuals were eliminated in the first strike. Another attack occurred today targeting the new leadership, and it appears to have been quite substantial as well. They are facing severe losses, and we will see how things unfold." He noted that most of the individuals he had in mind are now deceased, and there is a new group that may also face similar fates based on current reports.
He further claimed that Iran's military capabilities have been severely compromised, asserting, "Everything has been destroyed in Iran. A third wave is imminent. Their navy has been eliminated; their air force is gone. They lack air detection systems, and their radar capabilities have been dismantled. Almost everything has been taken out," he remarked.
Mojtaba Khamenei Appointed as Iran's New Supreme Leader?
Reports indicate that Mojtaba Khamenei, the son of the late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has been selected as Iran's next supreme leader by the Assembly of Experts, as per opposition channel Iran International and Israeli outlet N12 News. This decision reportedly came under pressure from the influential Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) following Khamenei’s assassination.
Mojtaba, a mid-ranking cleric with deep connections to the IRGC, has long been seen as a potential successor, although his ascension has sparked controversy within various factions of Iran's clerical and political landscape. The Middle East remains tense following the joint strikes that resulted in Khamenei's death, prompting Iran to retaliate with missile attacks directed at Israel and Gulf nations hosting US military bases.
