Trump Claims Iran to Send Oil Vessels Amid Ongoing Middle East Tensions
Trump's Statements on Iran and Oil Vessels
Washington DC: On Sunday, President Donald Trump announced that Iran has consented to dispatch 20 "large oil vessels" through the Strait of Hormuz, describing this move as a "tribute" and a "sign of respect," set to commence tomorrow. Trump also asserted that the United States is performing "extremely well" in its negotiations with Iran. He expressed skepticism about the reliability of Iran, noting that at times the U.S. has engaged in talks with Tehran, while at other moments, military action was necessary. These comments were made during a media briefing aboard Air Force One while traveling to Joint Base Andrews.
Trump stated, "I would only say that we're doing extremely well in that negotiation. But you never know with Iran, because we negotiate with them, and then we always have to blow them up." He expressed optimism about reaching an agreement, saying, "I think we'll make a deal with them, I'm pretty sure. But it's possible we won't." He also mentioned that the U.S. has experienced regime change in Iran on two occasions, claiming, "We've had regime change, if you look already, because the one regime was decimated and destroyed; they're all dead. The second regime is mostly dead. And the third regime, we're dealing with different people than anybody's dealt with before."
Trump remarked, "It's a whole different group of people — so I would consider that regime change. And frankly, they've been very reasonable." When asked about the possibility of deploying ground troops, he replied, "I just have lots of alternatives." He added, "Trump says we had regime change, but the same people with the guns and the money are still running Iran. We just took their oil."
Middle East Conflict Update: The conflict in the Middle East has now reached its 30th day, with over 3,000 fatalities reported since the war erupted on February 28 due to U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran. This has led to retaliatory attacks from Iran against Israeli and U.S. military targets, as well as other locations in neighboring Gulf Arab nations. Iran's control over the vital Strait of Hormuz has caused significant fluctuations in oil markets, given that 20 percent of the world's oil trade transits through this key passage. According to reports, the involvement of Iranian-backed Houthi rebels in the conflict could further jeopardize shipping routes in the Bab el-Mandeb strait leading to the Red Sea.
