Trump Calls White House Burger Delivery 'Tacky' Yet Politically Strategic

US President Donald Trump recently described a burger delivery to the White House as 'tacky' during a rally in Las Vegas. The delivery, made by DoorDash driver Sharon Simmons, was part of a celebration for the 'no tax on tips' policy. While Trump acknowledged the awkwardness of the event, he emphasized its political significance. The incident sparked social media backlash, particularly regarding Simmons' previous congressional testimony. DoorDash defended the delivery as a planned event to promote the new policy, asserting that Simmons is a genuine driver supporting the initiative. This incident raises questions about the intersection of politics and public relations.

Trump's Take on the Burger Delivery Incident

During a recent rally in Las Vegas, US President Donald Trump described the delivery of burgers to the White House as "tacky" and "embarrassing." This event, which featured McDonald’s cheeseburgers delivered to the Oval Office, was intended to celebrate the first anniversary of the "no tax on tips" policy. The delivery was made by DoorDash driver Sharon Simmons, a Republican supporter, who personally handed the food to Trump.

Reflecting on the incident, Trump remarked, "We do these things in politics; they're a little embarrassing, but they help you win by landslides." Simmons delivered two bags filled with burgers and fries, with the White House noting that she saved $11,000 in taxes due to the new policy. Trump acknowledged the delivery's awkwardness, saying, "To be honest, it was a little tacky," and referenced previous campaign moments involving fast food.

Social Media Reaction to DoorDash

DoorDash encountered criticism on social media, particularly regarding Simmons' previous testimony before Congress in July, where she advocated for the "no tax on tips" policy. Although she initially lived in Nevada, she has since relocated to Arkansas and briefly worked as a DoorDash driver in the DC area.

In response to the backlash, DoorDash spokesperson Julian Crowley clarified on social media, stating, "No one is claiming it was a real delivery. It was clearly a planned event to highlight a new policy. To suggest Sharon is merely a prop or an actor is completely inaccurate. She is a Dasher who participated to support a policy that benefits her."
